Hero Quest Group 1

Quest 1

The Trial

"You have learned well, my friends. Now has come the time of your first trial. You must first enter the catacombs which contain Fellmarg's Tomb.  You must seek out and destroy Verag, a foul Gargoyle who hides in the catacombs. This Quest is not easy and you must work together in order to survive. This is your first step on the road to becoming tru Heroes. Tread carefully my friends."

Welcome to the Hero Quest play by post game. Basically play by post allows us to take turns, and out time, and describe what each character is doing. Once you tell me what you are doing (movement, action, etc) then I will respond and tell you what, if anything, happens. Thankfully Hero Quest is pretty basic as far as RPG's go, so it will mostly be moving and fighting/searching.

When you are posting If you want to talk in character make sure you put anything you are going to say in italics. That way we can separate anything spoken from the things that are thought. Feel free to use your characters thoughts and feelings in your posts, the more you can flesh out what is going on for you the better this will go.

If you want to ask me something outside of the game start it with OOC: Out Of Character, again this will help break things up so we know what is being said and in which way. Once we get to combat I’ll give you a breakdown of how that is going to go also. So for an example…

Dumdass walks into the room and looks around, growling at what I see… the death of all the little mice puts him on edge, my hand goes to my frying pan, my only weapon.

Those stinking fart eaters will pay for what they’ve done. Hey guys, get a load of this crap!

OOC:What would I have to roll to have Dumbass attack all the dead mouse bodies?

Also, just so everyone is aware of the order and who is next, at the bottom of each post please add something like this…

[Up Next: Wizard][On Deck: Elf, Dwarf, Barbarian]

So we know who is next and the order of the rest of the group.

Comments

The Wizard leads the group of heroes out into these catacombs.

[Up Next: Elf][On Deck: Dwarf, Barbarian, (Monsters)]

Quest 1

Looks like yonatan_schultz is up next.

Quest 1

The Elf follows cautiously, keeping an eye out for secrets and enemies alike.

[Up Next: Dwarf][On Deck: Barbarian, (Monsters)]

Quest 1

Did you move your character in Roll20 yet?

Quest 1

I just saw that this feed was only emailing mrmagoo00.

I changed it to email everyone.

So, to repost Yonatan:

“The Elf follows cautiously, keeping an eye out for secrets and enemies alike.

[Up Next: Dwarf][On Deck: Barbarian, (Monsters)]"

Quest 1

As far as I can see, the Elf is still in his starting position on Roll20.

Quest 1

Sorry, moved now.

Quest 1

Perfect, thank you.

Fergusonbt, you’re up sir.

Quest 1

The Dwarf rushes after the Elf and the Wizard, eager to find combat.

[Up Next: Barbarian][On Deck: (Monsters), Wizard]

Quest 1

The Barbarian steps into the hallway, and take his position before the closed door ahead!

[Up Next: Those Evil Bastards – On Deck: Wizard, Elf, Dwarf]

Quest 1

The Wizard, called “Sparky” by those who think they can take a Ball of Flame and live to tell about it, fiddles with the “Not-Up-To-Current-Fire-Code” door opening it for our brave heroes. Then being wise like the Ivy-League educated owl, moves to the safety of the hallway.

[Up Next: Elf][On Deck: Dwarf, “Barbra”, (Monsters)]

Quest 1

The door opened by Sparky is occupied by two orcs standing by a bookcase. The books look undisturbed as the orcs never learned how to read and finding that the books lack pictures decided they were worthless.

Quest 1

The Elf, moving cautiously, trips over his own feet and stumbles into the room, sword sort-of-at-the-ready. Finding himself face to face with a hideous orc, spittle dripping from its maw, he swings wildly.

Quest 1

The Elf swings wildly at the Orc, his sword cutting deeply twice. The Orc looks at him and is only able to get out a single grunt before it’s body hit the ground, dead.

Quest 1

The Elf looks down at the dead orc; an expression of sheer surprise on his face.

[Up Next: Dwarf][On Deck: “Barbra”, (Monsters)]

Quest 1

Hearing what sounds like a creature dying, the Dwarf rushes in after the Elf to provide assistance. Upon entering, he sees what appears to be a dead orc on the ground by the Elf. His gaze then shifts to the still living one lurking in the shadows. Despite his initial eagerness for battle, the Dwarf lingers just inside the doorway, unable to move any closer.

[Up Next: Barbarian][On Deck: (Monsters), Wizard]

Quest 1

Barbara charges past the Dwarf with weapon raised. He sidesteps the orc with a spinning flourish and brings his axe down heavily upon the beast!

[Up Next: The filthy beast before me but not really because it’s surely about to die][On Deck: Sparky, Elfy-Face, Big Guy]

Quest 1

Barbara charges in past the dwarf screaming as it brings it’s long sword down upon the beast. The orc attempts to deflect the blow but the force is too great as the sword cuts the beast cleanly in two.

Quest 1

“Sparky” heads back in the room hearing the all clear from the others. He seems to insist on [[Searching the Room]] for some sort of map.

But instead of the map, he finds…..

Quest 1

As ‘Sparky’ moves throught he room he looks upon the bookcase, and amidst old rags, tattered tomes and soiled pages, he finds a small pouch containing 15 gold coins.

Be sure to keep track of this somewhere, as gold can be spent between Quests (maps) to purchase things from the Armory!

[Up Next: Elf][On Deck: Dwarf, “Barbra”, (Monsters)]

OOC: Also, let me know if you guys are getting the updates for the Adventure Log or not. I’ve tried to change the settings so that it emails everyone, but I’m not sure if they are sticking or not. If not then we may move the play-by-posts to the Forum section since I know that works.

Quest 1

OOC: I’m getting emailed when there is an update but the email just contains the first post so I have to click through to see what actually happened.

IC: The Elf squints, unable to make out the back wall of the room. He touches the wall, not quite sure of it’s existence. Eventually satisfied, he wanders back into the hallway, seeking the blood of whatever might get between him and treasure.

[Up Next: Dwarf][On Deck:, “Barbra”, (Monsters)]

Quest 1

The Dwarf seems utterly exhausted from the fight he didn’t participate in, and weighed down by the less than massive amount of gold in his pockets. He is barely able to make it back through the doorway as he shouts to the Elf to “Wait up!”

[Up Next: Barbarian][On Deck: (Monsters), Wizard]

Quest 1

The Barbarian watches as the others flee the room, and looks at the door in front of him. He looks at the Wizard and shrugs before pulling on the door’s handle, opening it.

[I still have 8 spaces to move beyond the door]

Quest 1

As Barbra opens the door, quickly and with little care for the noise it makes, he sees that the next room is as crowded as the first one was. Inside a Goblin and Firmir turn to look at the intruder, though it’s obvious that they did not hear the noises of the previous skirmish. They both let out low growls as they raise their weapons. Beyond them the room is bare except for a weapons rack that sits against the far wall.

Quest 1

Barbara peeks into the next room, revealing two beasts bickering among themselves. He is surprised they were not alarmed by the fighting just moments ago. Slowly and quietly, he retreats back into the room, scanning for anything of interest [Search for Treasure]. He then readies his sword, steeling himself in case the creatures beyond the door can smell him.

[OOC: I just realized that its a house rule when I play that you can close doors once you open them, but that’s not the actual rule! Oops!]

[Up Next: Monsters] [On Deck: Wizard, Elf, Dwarf ]

Quest 1

[OOC: Yeah that’s not a rule, but don’t worry, the more you play games like this the more the house rules end up just merging with the normal rules in your mind.]

In your search for treasure (you draw a Hazard! card), the stone beneath you suddenly gives way. You fall into a shallow hole, losing 1 Body Point and ending your turn. You may climb out and move normally on your next turn.

(So Barbra takes 1 damage taking him down to 7 Body Points.)

The Firmir, angry at being taken by surprise, charges intot he room after Barbra, standing in front of him and swinging his mighty weapon. The monsters weapon bites deep into The Barbarian’s flesh dealing 2 points of Body damage taking you down to 5.

The Goblin attempts to move into the room to join in the battle, but the Firmir is standing in the doorway, in his anger and haste a battle plan was the furthest thing from his mind.

[Up Next: Wizard] [On Deck: Elf, Dwarf, Barbarian ]

Quest 1

OOC: I can’t tell from line of sight, did I totally miss a door in the first room?

Quest 1

OOC: I know the first room that you guys went into, which had the 2 Orcs in it, had a doorway on the East side of the room. I know the doors can be kind of hard to see in Roll20 at times, so when I read the description of the room from now on I’ll make sure that I put in there if there are any doors and how many.

To that end the room you just opened the door to, has another door on the north wall.

Quest 1

The Wizard cast a Fire Spell at the Firmir. Then saunters back into the hallway to let the elf know that Barbra is in trouble.

[Up Next: Elf][On Deck: Dwarf, “Barbra”, (Monsters)]

Quest 1

The Elf rushes back into the room. He cries classic battle cry as he bring his sword down on the Firmir; “Whoops, I didn’t see you there!”

[Up Next: Dwarf] [On Deck: Barbarian, Monsters? ]

Quest 1

The Fimir howls in pain as the Fire of Wrath flies from the Wizards hands and lights his back on fire… the Ninja Turtle comment also did 1 damage to his fragile ego.

The elf moves quickly into the room and brings his short sword down towards the burnt part of the fimir’s back. But still reeling from the Ninja Turtle comment the fimir spins around and manages to bring his weapon up and block the elf’s attack… a low laugh emitting from his maw.

[Up Next: Dwarf] [On Deck: Barbarian, Monsters]

Quest 1

The Dwarf notices the commotion in the room behind him, and the Elf rushing past him and decides “Maybe I should actually help this time”. He charges in behind the elf, sword at the ready and attacks.

[Up Next: Barbarian][On Deck: (Monsters), Wizard, Elf]

Quest 1

Finally deciding that helping might not be the worst idea, the Dwarf charges into the room and swings his short sword at the Fimir. The creature, still reeling from the stinging comment from Barbra is unable to get it’s weapon up in time and the Dwarf’s weapon cuts deeply into the creature chest, causing it to drop to the ground dead.

The goblin looks at each of you, raises it’s weapon, then turns, throws open the door and runs into the hallway screaming.

[Up Next: Wizard] [On Deck: Elf, Dwarf, Barbarian ]

Quest 1

[OOC] Did we miss my turn after the Dwarf? I’d just like to search the pit for goodies and then move out of it :)

Quest 1

You are correct sir, I apologize for jumping the gun.

As you paw around in the pit you’d fallen into previously, you notice a small bundle of rags, most likely from a previous adventurer who had fallen into the same predicament. In the bundle you find a small bottle of bluish liquid, a Healing Potion. You can drink this healing potion at any time, restoring the number of Body Points equal to a roll of one red die (6 sided die). You cannot, however, exceed the starting number of your Body Points, this may only be used once.

Quest 1

You hear the Barbarian cursing under his breath while rummaging around in the depths of the pit trap. “A-HA!”, he exclaims. “A vial of red stuff! That has to be something good, right? I mean, uhh… I thought I saw something! That’s totally why I jumped down here. On purpose.” He hoists himself out of the hole with ease, dusts himself off, and limps into the hallway.

[Up Next: Wizard][On Deck: Elf, Dwarf, Barbarian]

Quest 1

Searching the room the wizard finds a little…..

Quest 1

The weapons on the weapons rack are chipped, rusted, and broken beyond use. There is nothing here any of the heroes would want to use.

But while digging through the dust covered room you notice a small bundle of rags, most likely from a previous adventurer. In the bundle you find a small bottle of bluish liquid, a Healing Potion. You can drink this healing potion at any time, restoring the number of Body Points equal to a roll of one red die (6 sided die). You cannot, however, exceed the starting number of your Body Points, this may only be used once.

[Up Next: Elf][On Deck: Dwarf, Barbarian, Monsters]

Quest 1

Letting out a blood thirsty scream, the Elf charges past the wizard and out into the hall. He comes up short, next to a surprised Orc who he promptly tries to stab.

[Up Next: Dwarf][On Deck: Barbarian, Monsters]

Quest 1

(OOC: I think the orc is in the room, but you can search the hallway for treasure/traps/secret doors still :D )

Quest 1

[OOC: TheHemogoblin is right in that the Orc is in the room above you. The way the name tags work on Roll20 they stick out even past room boundaries. I’ve tweaked it and taken the name tags away so that won’t happen anymore.

You are wrong on one thing though, you can search for traps/secret doors in a hallway, but you can’t search for treasure in a hallway, that can only be done in rooms.

But let me tell you that there are no traps or secret doors in this first map. There will be afterwards, but not in this one.

[Up Next: Dwarf][On Deck: Barbarian, Monsters]

Quest 1

Deciding that the fleeing goblin is of little consequence, the Dwarf follows the Barbarian into hallway. As he rounds the corner, he notices a door ahead and shouts his finding back to the Wizard and Elf in a voice loud enough to hopefully be heard without alerting any new monsters of their location or intentions.

[Up Next: Barbarian][On Deck: (Monsters), Wizard, Elf]

Quest 1

Deciding to take a less aggressive approach after the last mishap, the Barbarian carefully approaches the door and waits for his allies to join him before opening it.

((OOC: Opps! My bad re: hallways/treasures ))

[Up Next: Monsters][On Deck: Wizard, Elf, Dwarf]

Quest 1

[OOC: It’s all good man, that’s why I’m here… to keep dem rules all followed.]

You hear noises in the distance, but see nothing.

[Up Next: Elf][On Deck: Dwarf, Barbarian, Monsters]

Quest 1

((Pssst… Wizard’s up next ;) ))

Quest 1

OOC: Fixed [Up Next: Wizard][On Deck: Elf, Dwarf, Barbarian, Monsters]

Quest 1

The Wizard slinks to the hallway and does nothing else.

Quest 1

OOC: Not sure why but I’ve stopped receiving update emails :P Also, thanks for the heads up about the orc, I thought it was a graphic error not showing him in the hallway. Clearly, the Elf is a master of confusion.

Sigh. Aaaand now I’m stuck in this room that I’m not sure I could have gotten to. Oh, well. To death and glory!

IC: With a shout of “To death and glory!” the elf throws open the door and, apparently, steps inside. Possibly to get ganked to death.

Quest 1

[Up Next: Dwarf][On Deck: Barbarian, Monsters]

Quest 1

[OOC: I’ve updated the notifications on this post again, if this continues to be an issue we may just switch back over to the forum section as that didn’t seem to have an issue notifying people of the updates.

It shouldn’t let you pass through the places you can’t see, but it looks like it kinda glitched out on that aspect. I pulled you back out of the room facing the door. So you can continue your turn from there if you’d like.]

Quest 1

The Elf shouts into the void: “In the name of all that is holy, I open this door!” Satisfied with his narration of his own life, he opens the door.

Quest 1

As the Elf opens the door he is greeted with a sight most would not want to see. Inside was a large room, the northern edge held a roaring fireplace, the middle had a table that was littered with what was left of a rather large group of humans.

Around the table, looking at you and growling as they did so were the rooms occupants. A pair of large Orcs, the goblin that ran from you earlier, a Chaos Warrior in full armor, and a large Gargoyle.

Quest 1

OOC: Are you done with your turn yonatan, or did you still have movement you wanted to use?

Quest 1

OOC: Gargoyle already?! Oh no. hahaha

Quest 1

Hearing sounds in the distance, the Dwarf rushes off to see what terrible things the Elf has stumbled upon.

[Up Next: Barbarian][On Deck: (Monsters), Wizard, Elf]

Quest 1

Eager to get in on the action, Barbara runs down the hall, tripping over a loose stone on the floor and slamming into the wall ahead.

[Up Next: Monsters (uh-oh)][ On Deck: Wizard, Elf, Dwarf]

Quest 1

The orcs unleash a bloodthirsty cry as they look upon the elf standing in the doorway, saliva dripping from their large jaws. This is quickly followed by an inhuman screech from the gargoyle in the room, this must be Verag, the very gargoyle you were sent here to kill.

The Chaos Warrior makes not a sound, other than the echoing of its boots on the ground as it charges at the elf, standing in the doorway and attacking him. His axe swinging and cutting the elf (you took 1 damage).

The other creatures look thirsty to do damage of their own, but because of the weapons they have and the game system they cannot attack diagonally, so they sit, and wait for their chance.

[Up Next: Wizard][On Deck: Elf, Dwarf, Barbarian, Monsters]

Quest 1

The Wizard starts heading towards the commotion, stopping long enuff to cast a spell of the Dwarf. Maybe this will get shorty to the fight on time.

[Up Next: Elf][On Deck: Dwarf, Barbarian, Monsters]

Quest 1

OOC: Did the Gargoyle kill the Elf in real life? Is this some Jumanji voodoo at work?

Quest 1

OOC: I don’t know, haven’t heard from yonatan_schultz in a little bit…

Quest 1

The Wizard morns the death of the pointy eared one.

Quest 1
